Tippecanoe County Jail Overview
Tippecanoe County Jail is operated by the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Corrections page is the local hub for jail actions, including the current inmate listing, visitation policy, and JailATM bond or deposit page. The jail serves Lafayette, West Lafayette, Purdue-area agencies, county law enforcement, and municipal arrests that are booked into local custody.
The jail is a county facility, not a state prison. It holds pretrial detainees, local sentenced inmates, people with holds pending transfer, and defendants awaiting court action. Once a person is sentenced to the Indiana Department of Correction and leaves county custody, the county roster may no longer be the right search tool. IDOC, SAVIN, BOP, and ICE channels cover other custody paths, while the countywide Tippecanoe County inmate population page explains how those custody groups fit together.
The Jail Division page identifies Captain Donald Miller as Corrections Division Commander and repeats the jail's roster, visitation, JailATM, address, phone, fax, and emergency information.
Use the Jail Division page as the official local source for the jail's custody links before using any third-party search tool.
Tippecanoe County Jail Population
The Sheriff's About Us page states that Tippecanoe County Jail has capacity for 603 inmates and is among Indiana's top 10 largest jails. The county's JailTracker average monthly population report, printed October 19, 2025, covered January 2022 through September 2025 and showed an overall average count of 532. The same report showed an overall low count of 435 and an overall high count of 623.
The trend matters for visits, housing moves, roster timing, and release planning. Monthly averages rose through 2023, peaked around late summer and early fall 2024, and then moved down into the low 500s through 2025. The report showed high counts above the 603-bed capacity in July, August, September, October, and November 2024. September 2024 also had an average count of 611.
Tippecanoe County Jail Roster Lookup
The official current inmate listing is the Public Safety Cloud / JailTracker roster linked from the Sheriff's Corrections page. The roster is the best first path for current Tippecanoe County Jail custody. It is not a statewide prison locator, a federal locator, or a complete historical archive. The research did not locate a county-published refresh rate or released-inmate retention period, and the broader Tippecanoe County jail inmate records page covers roster fields and fallback channels in more detail.
- Open the Sheriff's Corrections page or the direct JailTracker current inmate listing.
- Search by name. If the roster presents a captcha, complete the verification before reading results.
- Confirm the person is in Tippecanoe County Jail custody, not just another person with a similar name.
- Read booking, charge, bond, status, facility, and release fields cautiously because the exact public display depends on the jail's vendor configuration.
- If the roster does not load, reload in a modern browser or call the Sheriff's Office at 765-423-9388 or Jail Division at 765-423-1655.
For court-filed charges after an arrest, move from the jail roster to MyCase and the Clerk. For state prison custody, use the Indiana Department of Correction locator. For victim notification, use Indiana SAVIN or VINELink.
Tippecanoe County Jail Address
The Sheriff's Office repeats the jail contact block across official corrections pages. Use the jail phone for custody questions and use public-records channels for copies of booking records, photos, and other releasable law-enforcement records. Emergency reporting should go to 911, not the records or jail information numbers.

Tippecanoe County Jail Visitation
Tippecanoe County Jail uses CPC/InmateSales video visitation. Visitors register in the Sheriff's Office lobby kiosks or at InmateSales.com. Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. Visitors should arrive 10 minutes early for lobby visits and may be denied or suspended for false identity, active protective orders, rule violations, prior convictions, parole status, or community-corrections status.

|---|---|---|---|
| Onsite video | Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM-11:00 AM | Up to 20 minutes. |

The official visitation policy gives the schedule, visitor restrictions, child-visit limits, lobby rules, and CPC customer-service number.
Confirm the housing unit schedule before the visit because classes, lockdown, or reclassification can end or require rescheduling of a session.
Tippecanoe Jail Mail and Money
Tippecanoe County Jail has a split mail system. Standard non-legal friends and family mail goes to the Highland Heights, Kentucky processing address, not the jail address. Legal mail, lawyer mail, government mail, and money orders still go to Duncan Road. Mail must include the inmate name, inmate ID, and return address, and it must meet the jail's scanner-friendly paper rules.
| Service | Provider / Detail | Fee or Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard mail | Tippecanoe County Jail, PO Box 76550, Highland Heights, KY 41076 | Use inmate name and inmate ID. |
| Legal mail and money orders | Tippecanoe County Jail, 2640 Duncan Road, Lafayette, IN 47904 | Money orders to Attn: Commissary Officer. |
| Lobby kiosk | Stellar Teller at the jail lobby | $3 fee, plus debit/credit card fee near 10%. |
| Online deposit | JailATM | 10% of deposit amount. |
| Money order | Made out to inmate name with all front fields complete | $50 or less increments. |
Property release is also controlled by jail rules. Current inmates must start the request on a tablet, pickup takes five business days excluding holidays, and the designee must bring valid photo ID. Staff will not discuss release details with anyone other than the inmate.
Bond at Tippecanoe County Jail
Bond can be a jail question and a court question at the same time. The Clerk page says cash bond can be paid at the Clerk or the Tippecanoe County Jail during regular office hours and at the jail after hours or weekends. Surety bond requires a bondsman. The Sheriff's Corrections page also links JailATM for bond payments or deposits, but a hold, warrant from another county, probation or parole hold, ICE detainer, DOC transfer order, or no-bond order can still block release.
Note: A visible bond amount does not always mean the person can be released before a court or hold review.
Tippecanoe Jail Records Requests
The county's Public Record Requests page links county policy, court records, sheriff records, and Indiana Public Access Counselor resources. Sheriff's Administrative instructions say requests may be mailed or faxed to the address or fax number on the form, mailed requests need a self-addressed stamped envelope, and the correct fee must be included. Records are not delivered until payment is received. Completed forms may also be brought in or emailed to the corresponding person.
The TCSO request form is under IC 5-14-3-5 and lists Sheriff Robert A. Goldsmith, the Sheriff's Office address, office phone, communications number, Jail Division number, and fax. For booking photos, the media duplication page lists digital photographs at $25 when a photo is releasable. Indiana APRA allows access to many records, but law-enforcement investigatory, sealed, juvenile, medical, safety, and privacy limits can apply.
Custody Beyond Tippecanoe Jail
Not every Tippecanoe County defendant remains on the county jail roster. A sentenced state prisoner should be searched through the Indiana Department of Correction offender locator. Indiana SAVIN and VINELink provide custody notification. The BOP inmate locator covers sentenced federal custody from 1982 to the present. ICE ODLS covers immigration detainee location. Community Corrections is a separate program and facility, not the same as Tippecanoe County Jail and not the current inmate roster facility.
| Custody Type | Primary Search Path | Use When |
|---|---|---|
| County jail | Tippecanoe JailTracker roster | Recent arrest, pretrial custody, local sentence, or county hold. |
| State prison | IDOC offender locator | Sentenced person transferred from county jail to state custody. |
| Victim notification | Indiana SAVIN or VINELink | Custody status alerts or release notification are needed. |
| Federal custody | BOP locator or federal channels | Sentenced federal inmate or federal hold questions. |
| Immigration custody | ICE ODLS | Immigration detention search, not local criminal charges. |
